The Motor Traders’ Association of NSW (MTA NSW), today welcomed in conjunction with the Motor Trades Association of Australia (MTAA) and with support by Treasurer Josh Frydenberg, Jobs Minister Michaelia Cash, and Industry Minister Karen Andrews that the Federal Government’s Enhanced Instant Asset Write Off (IAWO) stimulus initiative will be extended to 31 December 2020.

The Instant Asset Write-Off allowance has been one of the stimulus initiatives of the Federal Government to assist industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. How this initiative applies to the Motor Dealer network has been a question raised by Members and we have obtained from the ATO guidelines as to how the asset write off applies in particular to the purchase of vehicles.

MTA NSW Employment Relations have been approached by Members who wish to re-hire an employee for the JobKeeper Scheme, who was an ‘eligible employee’ on 1 March 2020 with the employer but are no longer an employee. In other words, our Members would like to re-employ a former employee who was an ‘eligible employee’ on 1 March 2020 and receive the wage subsidy from the ATO

On the 14th May 2020, the Federal Parliament passed a range of amendments to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) to facilitate the operation of the CovidSafe App (“the App”). These changes related to the collection of the personal information provided when people downloaded the App and protecting the usage and storage of this personal information.

The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and the National Cabinet have approved an exemption for roadhouses, dedicated truck stop facilities and truck driver lounges to remain open so Australia’s heavy vehicle drivers have access to showers, restrooms and facilities to undertake their mandated fatigue management breaks.

The New South Wales State Government released on the evening of the 30th March, 2020 an updated Public Health Order (PHO) being Public Health (COVID – 19 Restrictions on Gathering and Movement) Order 2020. The essence of the new PHO was to state that people “must not, without reasonable excuse, leave a persons’ place of residence”. The PHO goes onto to set out a number of exceptions to this blanket rule.

A fire devastated family at Batemans Bay received some generous help after losing their vehicle in the February fires on the South Coast of NSW. Former Goulburn businessman, Neville Burrows and his wife, Pam, made a special donation of their used car, a 2005 Mazda CX7, to assist the family.
